News and Notes:
Mennonite Church Saskatchewan annual delegate sessions will be held in Prince Albert on February 26 and 27. Alan Krieder is the speaker on our theme:”Christ Centered and Sent - Voicing our Hope”. Pray that our deliberations and worship will be meaningful and inspire us for the coming year. Name your delegates and youth delegate early. Visitors are welcome! Report books are in your churches.
Jaime Meza continues to provide leadership to the Mennonite Church Saskatchewan Hispanic ministry at Mount Royal Mennonite Church. MC Sask and MC Canada provide support for that work. Pray for God’s blessing on Jaime and the group, as they worship together and welcome newcomers. Pray that Jaime’s application for landed immigrant status will be approved, and that his family will be able to join him in Canada.
Please continue to pray for wisdom as Mennonite Church Saskatchewan plans for a public witness to “Peace in the Public Square” by our churches. This is one of the topics for discussion at our annual delegate assembly in Prince Albert on February 27th.
IMPaCT Update
Making an IMPaCT
The MCC centre was the site of a merging of languages, ideas and laughter on October 16th, with the welcome event for IMPaCT.
Introduced, in Spanish, as “papa” of Mennonite Church Canada, Karen Martens-Zimmerly invited participants to be “vulnerable, humble of spirit”, to “slow down, sit patiently, listen carefully, and ask deep questions”.
International Mennonite Pastors Coming Together (IMPaCT) is a project of Mennonite Church Canada, with the purpose of bringing together international pastors to take part in discussions surrounding the global church.
Each international participant has been partnered with a Canadian participant, who will host them in their home, sharing together stories, challenges and encouragement.
Pairings include Garth Ewert Fisher with Johnny Nepomuceno Elayda Dalisay of the Phillipines, Bruce Jantzen with Cornelio Schmitt Friesen from Mexico, Barb & Wilmer Froese with Martha Lucía Gómez Hincapié from Colombia, Ben Pauls with Samuel Esteban Tripainao Palacios from Chile, and Margaret Ewen Peters with Mariana Antonia Alvarez Bugueno from Chile.
It is still unknown whether or Aisha Perez Ramos, from Cuba, will be able to join the group due to the process of paperwork.
For most international participants, this is their first time to Canada, and for Johnny this is the first time he has touched snow, joking that he should bring a pocketful home for his wife.
An air of friendly humor and the smell of coffee invited participants to get to know one another and prepare for two weeks of involvement, with each other and the church community.
