MC Sask Appoints Delegates for MC Canada Gathering 2022

Mennonite Church Saskatchewan is sending 13 delegates to the Mennonite Church Canada Gathering in Edmonton, Alberta, from July 29 to August 1.

Delegates were gathered from MC Sask’s programs and ministries, seeking to carry the hopes, needs, and opportunities in which our congregations are invested into the national discernment and decision-making process. Delegates reflect the great diversity of MC Sask congregations—both rural and urban, older and younger, larger and smaller, generational Mennonites and newcomers to the faith tradition.

Eight appointed “at large” delegates join five delegates from MC Sask’s Council. Together they will bear witness to how MC Sask congregations have been “called to here,” to our various communities where God is bringing healing and hope. They’ll also bring stories back to MC Sask of how God is at work throughout and beyond our nationwide family of congregations.

Since the restructuring of MC Canada in 2017, individual congregations do not send delegates. Instead, congregations partner together as regional churches, and regional churches collaborate in covenant as a nationwide church. Following MC Canada’s operating agreement, five of the 13 delegates are MC Sask Council members and the remaining 8 are members at large from MC Sask congregations.

MC Sask’s delegates for the nationwide Gathering are:

  • Sharon Schultz, Eyebrow MC, acting moderator (MC Sask Council)
  • Pauline Steinman, Eigenheim MC (MC Sask Council)
  • Andrea Enns-Gooding, Rosthern MC (MC Sask Council)
  • Gordon Peters, Nutana Park MC (MC Sask Council)
  • Glenn Sawatzky, Grace MC (Regina), (MC Sask Council)
  • Emily Summach, Langham Mennonite Fellowship (appointed)
  • Len Rempel, Pleasant Point MC/Warman MC (appointed)
  • Rodney Hennessy, Grace MC (Regina) (appointed)
  • Mark Bigland-Pritchard, Osler MC (appointed)
  • Joe Heikman, Wildwood MC (appointed)
  • Lisa Martens Bartel, North Star MC (appointed)
  • Nancy Epp, Rosthern MC (appointed)
  • Gord Siemens, Mount Royal MC (appointed)

Delegates from across MC Canada’s five regional churches will come together for delegate sessions in Edmonton to work through agenda related to our shared nationwide ministries.

However, the Gathering is not only for delegates. People from across the nationwide church are invited to join in times for worship, sharing, learning, and inspiration. (See https://www.mennonitechurch.ca/gathering2022 for more information!) This year’s Gathering theme is “We Declare: What We Have Seen and Heard.” We’ll focus on how we can bear witness to Jesus’ good news in today’s world.

Although the registration deadline for in-person participation has closed, individuals and congregations can still participate online! (Find more details and registration info at www.mennonitechurch.ca/gathering2022.)
